S.M.A.R.T.
Western North Carolina's
Only Homeschool Testing Group with
Licensed Teachers, Specialists in the field of Special Education, and Degreed Professionals
How We Got Started:
Woodcock-Johnson
testing has been offered in Western North Carolina for over ten years
through Carolina Education Resource (CER). CER was originally owned and
operated by the late Wendy Coleman. A few years ago, Deb Erbach Burger
joined CER as Wendy’s partner. Together, they built a much needed
testing and tutorial business and offered parental training workshops.
Wendy and Deb also trained several qualified homeschool mothers to work
with them as Woodcock-Johnson testers.
A few years ago,
Wendy was diagnosed with cancer. Running and operating a business
became too difficult for the two women after the news of cancer, thus,
CER dissolved.
In January of
2006, Wendy Coleman called Glenna Toney, one of her trained and
qualified testers, and asked Glenna if she would be interested in
continuing the CER tradition of offering Woodcock-Johnson testing to
homeschoolers. After much thought and prayer, Glenna decided to try to
keep the CER testers together and continue to serve WNC with a quality
testing service.
As with any major business transition, the SMART
testers and administration were challenged to overcome obstacles common
to re-organization. However, under the leadership and guidance of
Glenna Toney the former CER was transformed into the new Smoky Mountain
Academic Resources and Training Incorporated of 2007.
The SMART team, graciously and proudly, introduces
to you SMART of 2008, as WNC's only homeschool testing group with
licensed teachers, specialists in the field of Special Education, and
degreed professionals. We are looking forward to serving You!
