Christy Wilde Plott is a Western North Carolina native that loves to travel, especially to a beach or Disney World. She was born in Asheville, raised in Hayesville and graduated from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee. She was thankful to live in rural Mexico for a time, as an adult, where the countryside, rich culture, and beautiful people transformed her life. Christy now lives back in Waynesville with her 16-year-old son Caleb, her favorite roommate-27-year-old daughter Taylor, their beagle “B”, and cat Doorbell.

Christy knew that she wanted to become a teacher as a young child when she would teach her best friend, and cousin, on the front porch swing at their Mam-aw Byrd’s house. Christy loved finding inventive ways to teach her cousin, who struggled to learn.

Christy graduated from Western Carolina University in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education and a Minor in Psychology.

She received her N.C. certification in K-12 Learning Disabilities and Mild to Moderate Special Needs. Christy has experience teaching in public and private school systems, impoverished areas in Mexico and homeschool. She is well- versed in working with children with varying academic abilities, as well as with emotional and mental health needs. She has extensive experience working with children on the Autism Spectrum, with differing levels of anxiety, PTSD and students that need to progress academically to decrease grade level discrepancies for various reasons.

Christy homeschooled her daughter for five years. Taylor graduated from Johnson and Wales University with a Culinary Arts degree. Christy currently is in her ninth year homeschooling her son, Caleb.

Christy has years of experience administering tests with recent additional training on the Woodcock -Johnson IV. Christy takes special interest in developmental stages, the effects of nature on the brain, and inner healing. She continues to research and take classes to enlighten herself and be able to engage others.

"In every walk with nature one receives far more than he seeks."

John Muir

Christy believes that all children are designed different and sometimes need to be taught differently. She is not afraid to step out of the box to help others see that Education is an atmosphere, a discipline, a life (Charlotte Mason). She believes joy can be found in all educational journeys. Christy would be honored to have the opportunity to partner with you and your family as you walk your educational path. Christy loves adventure and believes that even ordinary days hold great meaning and joy.

Earth’s crammed with heaven, and every common bush afire with God,
But only he who sees takes off his shoes;
The rest sit round and pluck blackberries.
-Elizabeth Barrett Browning
