Cognitive Abilities

All tests meet the annual North Carolina homeschool testing requirement.

Cognitive Abilities Test (CogAT®)

The CogAT® was designed as a companion to the Iowa Tests and measures a student's learned reasoning abilities in three areas: Verbal, Quantitative, and Nonverbal.

SMART will administer the CogAT® to students in grades 4-12 with the corresponding Iowa Test. This will give parents insight into their child's abilities in addition to achievement. It also is an accepted test for admission into the Duke Talent Identification Program (TIP).

This test is an additional 2.5 hours for a total fee of $120.
