Heather lives in Wilmington, NC with her husband and three sons. She was raised in a military home so she grew up living in many different places up and down the east coast and settled in Wilmington beginning in high school. She wanted to be a teacher from the time she was very small and enjoys finding creative ways to help kids understand difficult concepts (especially in math) and loves to watch the lightbulb come on when students understand concepts they have struggled with.
She attended NC State and received her BS in Mathematics and Mathematics Education and taught public school for 7 years until her oldest son was born. During that time, she received her National Board Certification and served as a mentor for beginning teachers. She taught all levels of students in middle and high school as well as working as a technology integration specialist for the county. She currently teaches online math for the NC Virtual Public School.
Heather is also currently homeschooling her three sons (elementary, middle and high school) – each having different learning styles, strengths and needs. Through working with her sons at home, she has come to realize that education isn’t just about “doing” school but is a way of life and an atmosphere we can create in our home to give children a love and hunger for learning. She enjoys tutoring and teaching small math classes as well as participating in a variety of other homeschool activities with her boys.
She organizes a homeschool coop at her church and enjoys doing service activities with her family including Special Olympics, Salvation Army, and the NICU at the hospital.
Heather believes that God created each of our children unique and special in their own ways. She would be honored to help your family discover your child’s strengths and set a path for success for each student based on who God created them to be.

My name is Shanna and my boys tested with Heather on Friday, February 26. I wanted to send you an email to let you know how wonderful our experience was. This is our first year homeschooling and we were looking for a test to fulfill the standardized testing requirement for homeschooling. Through a search on the SMART website, I was able to locate Heather. She was absolutely amazing. My youngest is six and left the test telling me how much fun he had. She made my son feel very comfortable and was very encouraging throughout. My oldest is in 7th grade and has taken many standardized tests through public school and by far, this was his best experience. After the test, Heather went above and beyond. She was very thorough in reviewing the test results for me. My oldest scored above average throughout the test, and Heather was eager to provide recommendations for how to move forward in providing more rigor in our upcoming school year. We opted for the oral language portion of the test for our youngest and the results validated some concerns that I had. Heather met my concerns with encouragement and provided solid strategies to help work with my son as we finish up this school year. She also helped identify his strengths as well. I left the testing session thankful that I had chosen this standardized test for my boys. I also left with confidence that I can use this data to enhance our homeschool in the upcoming school year. Heather Ertzberger was amazing! She was not only super responsive for scheduling but after the test she met with me at length to discuss options. She made my children feel at ease going into the test and they said afterwards their worrying leading up to taking the test subsided as Heather made them feel relaxed and confident. Her follow up with me even after they took the test was above and beyond. I will definitely work with Heather again and can’t recommend her enough!

Heather Ertzberger tested my 12yr old son whom has an academic disability on yesterday 3/11. I started homeschooling because my child needed more one on one. I really appreciated the opportunity to meet with her. She was very helpful in giving me information, advice and ideas that will help me help him achieve. I used Heather’s services for the Woodcock Johnson test for my special needs son and could not be more pleased! We highly recommend Heather for testing This year was my first year homeschooling and I wasn’t sure how to proceed with the end of the year testing but Heather made it very easy. She was easy to talk to very prompt in getting back with me on dates and even sent me a reminder with all the details I needed for the day. It was a blessing to have you administer the Woodcock Johnson test for my boys! Our first year of homeschool was challenging to say the least but we are happy we decided to give it a try! I admire what public school teachers do on a daily basis more now knowing a glimpse of what they go through. When it comes to our experience, the 20-21 school year, we loved how homeschool gave us the option to willingly learn at our own pace while enjoying family time. Heather Ertzberger, you were so helpful in administering the test, explaining the results, and helping my boys feel comfortable the entire time.
